Position Summary:
The Children’s Minister is someone who can exercise initiative and creativity in overseeing our ministry to children (nursery age-5th grade). This person must work well on a team as well as be able to lead effectively. We are seeking someone who will dedicate careful thought and heartfelt enthusiasm to the engagement of children in our church and community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. This position is part-time (~20 hours/week).
Primary Directives:
- Provide leadership for the Children’s Ministry
- Oversee development, recruitment, training, and communications of the Children’s Ministry team (volunteers and parents)
- Responsible for children’s programs, curriculum, and philosophy
Job duties include:
- Developing a meaningful, age appropriate worship experience for children (0 – 12 years old)
- Make all necessary preparations (materials, curriculum, scheduling, etc.) to make sure ministry activities run smoothly. This will require weekly (but not all) work to be performed at the church
- Ensure child registration/check-in for worship services is conducted in a way that keeps the kids safe and accounted for
- Collaborate with all volunteers who work with children
o Schedule all volunteers for weekly services as well as special services
o Provide training and updates to all volunteers on a consistent basis
o Encourage, edify and express gratitude to volunteer base
o Communicate with parents on a monthly basis about what is happening with children’s ministry and how they can participate in their child’s spiritual growth
o Run background checks on all volunteers who work with children
- Be available for staff meetings twice a month
- Be available for special training and or conferences
- Ensure a safe environment for children physically, emotionally, and spiritually
- Serve as a spiritual role model. Model healthy church and family life by maintaining appropriate spiritual discipline and balance in personal, family, work, and community life
- Work with the children’s elder to develop and monitor the annual children’s budget
- Serve as coordinator for special events (VBS, Easter and Christmas programs)
- Participate in family related events to help foster relationships with families
Job Skills and Requirements
- Must have a definite call to children’s ministry that provides an environment in which children can grow in a personal relationship with Jesus
- Must be able to lead volunteers in a positive direction
- Must be able to delegate responsibilities when appropriate
- Must be organized and thorough
- Must be committed to good interpersonal relationships, teamwork and support of church ministries
- Must have a pleasant personality and be able work with people that he/she does not always agree with.
- Must be committed to confidentiality regarding all records, both of the church and staff, and the members.
- Must have a good work ethic
Evaluation
There will be quarterly meetings to discuss performance or work related issues with the Pastor and elder overseeing the children ministry. Responsibilities will also be reviewed at these performance meetings.
