Highland Park UMC is over 50 years old with a very solid and stable core of believers. We are an active and growing church with an average Sunday attendance of 300 to 400 people in our contemporary and traditional worship services. HPUMC is one of over 90 churches in the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina belonging to the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Position Description
HPUMC is seeking a Director of Youth Ministries who is a gifted leader that provides a well–balanced program for youth that will seek to win the lost to Christ and to help those who are Christians to mature in Christ by discovering the personal gifts and abilities with which God has blessed them. The one word that describes and entails the concept of youth ministry is “discipleship.” The Director of Youth Ministries must possess and maintain a healthy, personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and serve as a role model for the youth and adults in the Church, and in our community.

Responsibilities of a successful candidate will include:
Ministry to the Youth and Youth Leadership
Actively promote the accomplishment of the Youth Mission Statement: To make disciples of Jesus through worship, fellowship, service, and witness, and the United Methodist Mission Statement: "To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."
Develop, promote, coordinate, and execute a balanced program of activities and discipleship ministry to youth that includes service, worship, leadership, fellowship, and witness. This includes the ensuring the administrative duties associated of the program are adequately performed.
Train and involve youth and youth leaders in outreach activities to reach inactive youth or those in need of the church.
Plan yearly youth emphasis to involve youth in areas of church leadership.
Involve youth in ministry, spiritual retreats and mission projects.  The Director of Youth Ministries will have access to church transportation at times and should have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one within 90 days of hire.
Be available for discussions and guidance with youth within the church.
Support youth in their school and extracurricular settings.
Use all relevant means of communication technologies to enhance communication with youth and parents (i.e.: website, texting, e-mail, bulletin boards, handouts and mail.)
Enlist a balance of men and women youth workers with nominating Committee and the youth committee.
Lead regular leadership meetings with youth leaders and youth committee.
Provide training and service opportunities for the youth in church and/or at state and national levels.

Ministry to Parents and the Congregation
Be available to parents to discuss issues related to their child or youth ministry in accordance with the safe sanctuary policy and within the confidentiality guidelines noted in the UMC Youth Ministries Handbook.
Maintain open lines of communication with parents and the church body and provide regular updates.
Coordinate parent and church volunteers to help when and where needed.

Support of the Senior Pastor, Church Leadership and other Duties, as needed and assigned by the Senior Pastor
Actively support the mission and vision of the Senior Pastor.
Support and collaborate with the leadership of the church.  
Lead, develop and manage youth ministry programs, including recruitment of volunteers to support these programs. This would include, but is not limited to, Sunday School, UMYF, small groups, fellowship and spiritual life trips.
Support and participation in existing church ministries.
Plan and work collaboratively with the Senior Pastor, other ministry leaders, parents and volunteers.
Attend and participate in large church functions (i.e. Sunday services, Christmas Eve service, etc.) and ministries.  The Director of Youth Ministries may be asked to fill the pulpit, on occasion, for whole church functions (i.e. Youth Sunday.)
Participate in activities for continuing education opportunities, conferences and research.  
Serve as an active a member of Church Council.
Assess all youth programs on a yearly basis and communicate a vision for the year. This is to be coordinated with the youth committee and delivered to the church council in accordance with the long range planning of the church.
Draw up a yearly budget for youth ministry, maintain accurate financial records for all youth accounts and submit to youth and finance committees.
As time permits will assist in and serve as resource person to children’s ministry of church.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

The ideal candidate will exhibit a spiritual focus, a dynamic personality, an ability to direct and relate well with a variety of ages, and the desire to grow the youth ministry at HPUMC. Knowledge and use of audio/video technology tools to supplement our ministry and outreach is desirable. An educational background in ministry, bible studies and Christian Education is desired.
